Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 9, 2026
Refrain ("Refrain", "we", "us") turns podcast episodes into LinkedIn post drafts written in your voice. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who helps us process it. Questions? Email [email protected].
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. We use the verified email as your account identity.
- Content you give us. The audio files you upload or the podcast/video URLs you paste, your episode titles, the sample LinkedIn posts you paste to build a voice profile, and the drafts we generate for you.
- Billing records. A credit ledger tied to your email (purchases, free credit, usage). Card payments are handled entirely by our payment provider — we never see or store your card number.
- Technical data. Your IP address (used to rate-limit abuse) and ordinary server request logs.
How we use it
- To run the service: transcribe your audio, learn your writing voice, and generate posts.
- To keep your episode history, voice profile, and credit balance attached to your account.
- To protect the service from abuse (per-IP rate limiting).
- To respond to support requests you send us.
We do not sell your personal data, show third-party ads, or use your content to train AI models for anyone. Our AI providers process your content only to return your results.
Who processes your data (sub-processors)
To deliver the service we share the minimum necessary data with:
- Vercel — application hosting and request logs.
- Cloudflare — our database (D1, stores your account, episodes, voice profile, credit ledger) and file storage (R2, stores uploaded audio).
- Replicate — runs the AI models that transcribe your audio (WhisperX) and generate your posts (Anthropic's Claude). Your audio and transcript text are processed here to produce your results.
- iiiLab — resolves a pasted podcast/video URL into a downloadable media file.
- Creem — our payment provider and Merchant of Record; it processes your purchase and card details.
- Google — sign-in (OAuth).
These providers may process data on servers outside your country (for example, in the United States).
Cookies
We use only essential cookies: a sign-in session cookie and a security (CSRF) token. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
Your episodes, generated drafts, voice profile, and credit history stay in your account until you delete them or ask us to remove them. Uploaded audio is stored in our file storage to process the episode. Email [email protected] to delete your account and associated data.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Reach us at [email protected] and we'll respond within a reasonable time. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.
Children
Refrain is a business tool and is not intended for anyone under 16.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll make a clearer notice.
